Astro Increasing Price - You OK or What?

Our local Astro is increasing price, Do you agree or not? If not, go check this site at PetitionOnline.com, created byNorazizan Mohamad. I personally reject, disapproved the increment. What about you?
Here, I just copy and paste 5 of the 9 reasons why the petition was made in the first place:
1. You have not improve your program quality. There are still a lot of repeated old programs. Repeating programs to provide more viewing opportunities to viewers is a lame excuse. For those who regularly watch Astro.. Its just too many Repeated Programs !!
2. You proudly claim to have more than a million subscribers. And the numbers are increasing everyday. You should be able to reduce your overall cost per subscriber through economy of scale. Increasing the fee cannot be substantiated.
3. You have advertisement revenues. Advertisements in ASTRO are just like those in free TVs! Subscribed TV should be free from advertisement in the first place.
4. You have monopoly of the market for 25 years for you to enjoy better profit and recover start-up costs. Your fee increase is simply abuse of such power granted to you by the government.
5. Your service quality is below expectation. We can’t receive programs during bad weather. So, should we deduct a fee for every failure to receive programs ?

Uhm, I hardly watch Astro these days. Most of the show series are slightly outdated compared to the US, like Heroes, Desperate Housewives etc. I’d rather get the DVD or download. Hahaha!
But yeah, they shouldn’t increase the price la. Astro are getting boring these days. Too many advertisement.. macam tengok RTM saja.

Haha…I watch downloaded series like Lost and The L Word which is not available on Astro.
Recently spent less time in front of the tv unless there’s tennis games. But I don’t really have to care abt the price hike because my sis is actually working there.

I know I’ll get shot here, but I think Astro has every right to increase it’s subscription fee. If you’re not happy with that, then cancel your subscription. It’s as easy as that. Nobody’s forcing anyone to subscribe to Astro.
Here are my counter arguments for all of the five absolutely weak points mentioned above. Please note that this is not targeted to Papa Joneh, or any specific commentor… just the person who created the petition.
1) The complainer conveniently forgets that the number of channels have also increased. What a wonderful case of “forgetfulness”. Also the point assumes that everyone are “regular” Astro viewers… again significantly forgetting that most people have a life other than watching TV, and repeats are one of the best thing that Astro provides. Do RTM or Media Prima have this?
2) That’s one of the most unintelligent arguments against the price increase. What economies of scale? We now have the highest number of motor vehicles in history, does that mean the price of petrol should be dropping due to “economies of scale”? Nonsense! The more subscriber Astro has, the more additional costs it has to cover. Furthermore, do you even know the crazy costs of broadcast rights nowadays? Obviously you don’t.
3) Yet another idiotic comment. Let me debunk this with a simple question. Is it only ESPN on Astro that has ads? Ask your friends in the US and UK on how much they pay for sports cable subscription. Then ask them whether these channels have ads in them. Then smack yourself up side the head for making such a foolish statement.
4) Since when do you need the government to be a monopoly? If you think setting up a satellite TV operator is a simple job, why aren’t there any competitors to Astro? They are a monopoly by actually creating a market and staying there by being the best in that market. And please! The government has in fact tried to break Astro’s monopoly… but of course, it’s hard to fight with a company that gotten in this position because they are the best in what they do.
5) So lower your expectations. Or better still, terminate your Astro subscription. We don’t get electricity bill rebates when TNB messes up. We don’t get phone bill rebates when TM messes up. You are at their mercy. At least with Astro, you get to terminate your account. If I have a problem with TNB, can I get another electricity provider?
If it pains you that much, then just terminate your Astro subscription! Or, you can do what I did; unsubscribe to one package and get almost the same monthly bill before the price hike.

I’m totally agree with Azmeen. There’s so many new channels now and the price hike is totally reasonable. If subscribers do not agree, subscribe cheaper package and watch less tv. As simple as that.

I personally think that we should not make cable TV as something that we NEED, like water or food. Once it becomes an important part of you life, that’s what will happen and exactly as one of those ASTRO stickers I saw on a car… “ASTRO-Can’t live without it’.
I have ASTRO too but looks like I need to downgrade. It’s under utilized.

mine to the minimum it can be. Now its mostly for my son to watch his favourite dora, enstien, mickey mouse etc. I mostly online anyway..like watching the shooter dvd..kekeke.

yayayayaa… i agree with u. both of these program.. my son couldn’t live without.
I just realize.. i need to buy him the Jerry shirt. Yea, the Tom and Jerry show at ch 62 at 10pm. He hates the Tom cat but he loves the Jerry mouse. He said, Bad Tom! Hahahhaa.
and of coz, Hey too dlee…… the tools to help Mickey mouse. My son got all correct for the right tool to solve the problem. so cool.

astro just sucks! i’m very busy & barely watch tv still i get bored having aSTRO
