What is Baby Shower actually?

This is the question I keep asking myself whenever I see other friends talking about it. I honestly have no idea what baby shower is. Yes, you can laugh at me. Obviously, I never celebrate it or even attend to any baby shower. I heard it is for the mother to be only. Really? No wonder a father like me usually ignored it.
Some how, Thanks to GOD for saving me the embarrassment, I saw this cute baby shower decorations and tableware from partypail.com when I did the search on baby stuffs. I have to get something for the twins, you know. My elder son Josh already has everything but what about my twins, Preston and Presley? They just have to have something interesting and need I say memorable in terms of toys, gifts, or party theme in this case.
I found one cool baby shower supplies and I believe my wife would agree too. I just love the Rubber Ducky Baby Shower Supplies. Don’t you all think so? Say, “yes” here, OK
So the question now, when to celebrate this baby shower so called event. Now I am blurred. Oh well, better get to sleep now while the babies are still in the idle mode

Reading a little bit about it: baby shower is American custom, considered new custom in UK (no wonder I never heard about it while being there for 5 years) and emerging in Asia. It’s supposed to happen BEFORE the birth. I think here in Malaysia we substitute it by simply giving gifts to the parents after birth or during full moon.

A baby shower is usually a party/small gathering organized by someone very close to the mother-to-be.. and then all the mother-to-be’s friends will come by with presents for the baby. How nice, right?? I’m wondering when Syura will host my baby’s baby shower. Hahaha.
It’s also the same for bridal shower. But in the US (both bridal shower and baby showers) have registries where the bride or mother-to-be registers things that SHE ACTUALLY WANTS.. so those attending just check online and buy those things for her.
So the “surprise” look on their faces are actually fake. Well, not entirely.. they know they’re getting it, but not from who.
Sorry for the long comment. Hehehe. Does the explanation help??
