Village gathering katam-katam style!

I want to share a short story here about village gathering aka Kenduri Kadazan style. Let me disclaimed myself by saying I am not making statements here to put my own Kadazan race in shame or whatever you thought negative about it.
I just found this very interesting that whenever I go to any village gathering, especially on weddings, I am more than often see poker tables not less than two. Be they under the tent, near the kitchen area and even right in front of the gate entrance. Now, why is that? Hey, this even happened on my wedding day. Pretty cool, eh? Yes, they played the “katam-katam” too. LOL. Sorry, I have no idea what “katam-katam” means in English. I just know the game has symbols like red crab, red chicken, red prawn, blue round shape, referred as moon, blue jar – “tajau” as in Malay and the last one I forgot already. Hahaha.
I told you this is a short story ![]()

Interesting. In Penampang I never see people play ketam-ketam during weddings or CNY, but always during the funeral wake. At my hometown in Tamparuli I never see it during the funeral wake or weddings, only during CNY.
