How to solve the Rubik 3×3x3 permutation puzzle

During my laptop and internet breakdown, one of the many things I have done is this, solving the Rubik 3×3X3 puzzle. Do you know what is the Rubik 3×3x3 puzzle? Wiki coming to the rescue.
A permutation puzzle is a type of puzzle in which parts move around the puzzle in a limited number of ways. Depending on the number of parts and the restrictions on movement the puzzle has a number of possible configurations, or positions. The higher the number of possible positions, the more difficult it will be to solve the puzzle, in general.
This puzzle was so famous back in the 1980’s, invented by Erno Rubik in 1979, that everyone of my school friend need to have one. My family is one of the fallen crazy fans of it. Yes, the four of us brothers including my father, each got our own Rubik and challenging ourselves for the new family record.
Those were the days that we had one common interest other than badminton. Now, I am the only one know how to finish this. My 3 brothers all forgotten about it. Not all the formulas though. Like me, before this I can only remember halfway through. Right to the step 2 or 3. I have been trying to finish the whole face of the puzzle but just could not. I can’t even understand the instruction included in some of the cheap rubik package. Even from the information I gathered from the Internet gave me nothing but headache. Until I saw a few videos from the expert.
From the video below I can average at a record of 2 minutes to finish the puzzle. That was using the old, cheap RM2.50 puzzle. It is so tight and hard to turn. If you force it, it will break … like what I did to my 3 rubiks. Yes, I have many and many just broke during the ’speedcubing’ as the expert call it. Currently, I still have 3 rubiks that still playable including my latest RM25 worth of rubik (below picture). This one is a better rubik to play.
Immediately I broke my own record of 2 minutes average at the first try only. Now my record stand at 1 minute 20 seconds. I know it is still too slow in comparison with other guys in the Internet but hey, at least I have improved myself after just using new expensive rubik. The new rubik is adjustable with springs inside and you can actually make it faster by lubing it with some type of oil. For me, I use my rc hobby synthetic oil. I can explain more later, if you ask lah. I can even show you how to finish the rubik puzzle using the simple method, they call it “beginners way”. Only if you ask. For now, just watch this video of mine made in the office in a hurry using my cheap rubik worth RM2.50. Sorry silent mode.

… just kidding. Here the Official World Record 8.72 seconds set by my master a Japanese Yu Nakajima at the Kashiwa Open Final 2008.
Search more, you will find there is even blindfolded record 54.22 seconds set by Rafal Guzewicz at the Polish Open 2008 . Not to mention, there is even the 3 years old girl! Wah la weiiiii. Malunye saya.

that was a lil bit confusing, especially the part when u were pointing at the colours and strategizing, but for me having attempted so many times but failed to solved it, i would just have to say - that was brilliant!!

If you give me the cubic, i can get it done within 2 mins (last time boleh lah 1 min 25 sec)..but if you ask me the way to solve it..no idea at all!! hahaha my hand automatically pusing the cube until siap since i’m 12 years old..weird kan..?
Have you seen the 7×7x7 cubic?? Hari itu i thought mau beli, sekali tengok the price…*pengsan* RM78..haha terus lari from the shop..gila babas punya mahal

nimrodjo - yep.. learned. it took me one month, 5 rubiks puzzles and one laptop down to remember it one more time.

sasha - no holding. use my cute 6 inches camera stand just between my body and my hands. thats why some of the view, blocked.

kadusmama oh yes.. i got friend who knows how to solve this. see you are much better at 12 yrs old. I was like in the secondary school already.
for this 3×3x3 cube, i can teach if anyone asking. I already memorize everything… but still i cannot go faster… hmm susah tgn orang tua ni…
anyway, ya bah… mahal bah the puzzle. but if i got extra, i might get it.. just for the sake of owning it. if wife permitlah.. nanti duit susu pulak di pakai. hahahaha.

My record is only around 3 minutes..and that is way back around 5-6 years ago. But that is also using the cheap one..maybe if using the more expensive one it will be faster.. lol

Yes, with better rubik cube, definitely the speed is there. Im trying now to break the 1 minit before this year end. I’m buying another expensive one. Currently, the rm25 cube is getting abused more than it can cope for. hahaha.

since I was about 18 years old until now masih bulum dapat2 solve lagi that silly rubik ka kubik that you guys call!

hahahahahaa… gitulah dulu sia pikir. mati2 sia mau buat ndak juga. sia pi research.. print semua tu instructions … lagi sia bingung.
lepas watch the video … entah like hours and days on the same instruction.. baru sia dapat lukis di kertas.. trus hari2 sia buat … entah mana suda tu gambar sia.. sampai luka jari sia bah.. LOL
